Price a 3D printed part from inside your AI assistant

More engineers start a sourcing question in an AI assistant than in a search bar. "Who can print 200 of these brackets in PETG, in Europe, by next month?" is now a typical prompt. Until now the best an assistant could do was list supplier websites and leave the quoting to you.

3Descu now answers that question directly. Any assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open standard Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and VS Code use to call outside tools, can ask our factory for a price and get one back in the chat.

What happens when you ask

  1. The assistant asks what we make. It learns our processes (FDM and SLA), build sizes, file formats and where we ship.

  2. It reads the materials list. PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, nylons, carbon-filled grades, TPU and resins, with what each one is good for.

  3. It measures your part. Paste a link to your STL or OBJ on Printables, Thingiverse, GitHub, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, GrabCAD or Onshape. The server downloads it and measures volume, size and surface area with the same parser as our website.

  4. It prices your quantity. The estimate comes from the same pricing engine as the online calculator at quote.3descu.com, so the number in the chat is the number on our site.

The answer ends with a link to place the order on our site. Nothing is ordered automatically. As with every order, our engineers review the file before it prints.

Set it up in a minute

  • Claude Code: one command, claude mcp add --transport http 3descu https://zzamnvhadwibvafqcfpd.supabase.co/functions/v1/mcp

  • Cursor and VS Code: one entry in the project's MCP settings file.

  • Claude Desktop and ChatGPT: add a custom connector with the same address.

Exact snippets for each tool are on the setup guide.

Good to know

  • No account, no API key. The server is open to any assistant.

  • Your file stays yours. The server reads the file to measure it and keeps no copy.

  • Sensible limits. Files up to 25 MB, quantities up to 1,000 pieces per automatic estimate. Bigger runs go through the quote form, where an engineer prices them by hand.

  • Same rules as the website. Materials, minimums and delivery options match the calculator exactly.

Why we built it

Buyers want a price before a conversation, and engineers want it without leaving the tool they are working in. An assistant that can measure a file and ask the factory directly removes the slowest step in sourcing a part: waiting for the first number.

3Descu runs 200+ printers in an ISO 9001:2015 certified factory in Romania and ships across Europe. Try it from your assistant, or upload your file on the calculator as usual.
